Time Will Tell

In the text, Your Lifestyle Has Already Been Designed, I noticed that the writer states a lot of reasons why we spend money the way we, Americans, do. We are trying to fill in empty spaces with things we don’t need because the sources are available to us and we have the money to get what we want when we want it. The author talks about how we are also given a lot more time than we need in order to finish a task that could be completed in possibly half of the given time. He states the Parkinson’s Law and says, “the more time you’ve been given to do something, the more time it will take you to do it.” If I am given a week to wash five loads of clothes I would maybe take my time and do one load a day instead of finishing all the clothes in one day even though the task is possible to complete in less than a full day.

  1. I agree with Shakayla and is why we should have more free time.In the article, Your Life Style Has Already Been Designed, David Cain states various ideas that I agree to. David Cain writes himself, “We’ve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don’t have.” David’s idea of our lives not being satisfying enough for us which wants us to buy the material things is an extreme eye opener. If we continue to buy material objects or on entertainment then all our hard working money will fly by. Also with us continuing to buy our way through the weekend it gives businesses more money and ourselves less time with the ones we love.

  2. As kayla said we should have more time to ourselves then we have to work and get money. Money is a superficial thing to want all the time and to take the time to enjoy life is a gift the we continue to take for granted in our everyday life. Not everybody wakes up the next day and the people that do normally waste it by sitting behind a desk to make money to spend on clothes to impress people that don't care. Then we go back and want to make more. The article shows that money isn't everything, and we should value everyday life. So i agree fully with what kayla said.
